Bhaca
by Andile Dyalvane
Bhaca is a personal collection by ceramicist Andile Dyalvane, rooted in his Xhosa heritage. The name refers to the custom of making fine incisions in the skin to mark initiation, clan or healing.
Dyalvane carries that practice into clay, cutting and opening the surface of his forms. The originals were scanned and scaled up, then cast in stone, so the faceted folds of the hand made piece survive at architectural size.
